Transparent PNG vs White Background for Cut Lines

2026-08-17

Which input gives a cleaner sticker contour: a transparent PNG or artwork on white — and how background colour detection and tolerance work.

Transparent PNG: the best case

With real transparency the tracer reads the alpha channel directly, so the contour matches your design exactly. Keep the alpha hard-edged: long soft fades make the boundary ambiguous and the contour drifts outwards.

Artwork on a solid background

Flat white or another uniform colour also works. The generator flood-fills from the edges, treats near-white pixels as background, and can pick any background colour with the eyedropper for coloured backdrops.

The tolerance slider then decides how far a pixel may deviate from that sampled colour and still count as background — lower it when a yellow background eats into yellow artwork, raise it when gradients or shadows leave background islands behind.
